Redecorate a bathroom for under $50
Being on a budget doesn’t leave a lot of room for apartment makeovers. When you’re trying to save every dollar you can, there isn’t a big opportunity to take your current decor and give it an upgrade. That’s why, when you’re first decorating, it’s a good idea to have pieces that are versatile, timeless, and speak to you. For rooms like the bedroom or living room, this concept is highly applicable. But for places like the bathroom, things can get a little tricky. Limited space, tile floors, and the virtual omnipresence of moisture can leave you feeling like you have few options, especially when you can’t splash the cash. However, with a little creativity and hard work, you can give your bathroom a completely new look for under $50. The tips below will help you do just that.
Paint. A radically different look starts with a change in the color scheme. While a brand new can of paint won’t leave you much room for anything else in your $50 decorating budget, you can save quite a bit by shopping from your local home improvement store’s selection of “error” paints. These are paints that were mixed incorrectly, or came out with the wrong shade. They’re priced to move, too, so while it might not be exactly the color you’re looking for, you’ll only be paying $15 or less for it.
Hang new curtains. While the concept of making your own curtains certainly sounds like fun to DIYers, it doesn’t necessarily save any money. Shopping online for curtains, on the other hand, can. Websites like Amazon have great deals on a variety of shower and window curtains that will fit the vision you have for your new bathroom decor. You shouldn’t need to pay more than $20 for these, either.
Upcycle old furniture (or other materials). Want to install shelves? Need a little extra storage space? Use any old materials you have on hand to create something new. This project is a bit involved, but can really turn out great results. If you happen to be short on materials, you may want to try looking in the “free stuff” section of Craigslist. If everything goes according to plan, you may only need to spend money on mounting hardware, which can be had for just a little over $10.
DIY art. Whether it’s a photo, a drawing, or a painting, all you really need to give your creativity a little professional polish is a frame that fits both the new color scheme, and the piece you’re trying to display. Again, Amazon is a great resource for finding everything affordable. Picture frames can be found for under $10 there, and perhaps even less on other parts of the web.
Change the color scheme. One of the easiest ways to redecorate a bathroom is by replacing the bath mat, towels and shower curtain. Pick a cohesive color scheme and choose pieces that match. Some retailers, such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Target, do the legwork for you and offer bathroom sets that match.
Don’t be afraid to move things around. Rugs, towels, and other accoutrements found elsewhere in your home can find a new spot in your bathroom. “Shopping” around in other rooms can help you discover the hidden potential of pieces you may have been neglecting!
